Immigration Workshop: Deportation Defense
This course demonstrates how to practice immigration law before the Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals through a simulated case. The case simulation will involve a non-citizen that is facing removal due to a criminal conviction. The course will address both legal theory and procedure during each step of the removal process. The course will involve complex issues relating to criminal immigration. Students will be expected to participate in class discussions on how the client in the simulated case should be represented. There will be mock trial classroom exercises.
Grading and Method of Evaluation:
Letter grade with pass/fail option. Students will be required to draft legal documents and the final paper will be to draft a brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals which satisfies the Upperclass Writing Requirement.
